The dance production L’œil nu by Maud Blandel and the theatre production Introducing Living Smile Vidya by Living Smile Vidya were singled out this year. The June Johnson Newcomer Prize goes to Anna-Marija Adomaityte.
The Federal Performing Arts Jury chose L’œil nu by Maud Blandel (born in 1986) out of 21 submissions in the Dance Production category this year. In this highly personal piece with six dancers, Blandel deals with the childhood trauma of her father’s suicide through “stellar memory games”. Introducing Living Smile Vidya by and starring Living Smile Vidya (born in 1982), produced by Das Theaterkolleg, was chosen from the shortlist of 16 productions at the Swiss Theatre Encounter 2024 as the outstanding work from last year. In it, the Indian actor and trans activist tells her personal refugee story as a “humorous trans solo”. Anna-Marija Adomaityte (born in 1995) was selected from 31 entrants to receive the June Johnson Newcomer Prize, funded by the Stanley Thomas Johnson Foundation, for her “dancing against the norm”.
