Of the seven projects submitted last autumn for Dance as Cultural Heritage 2020, the Federal Dance Jury has awarded four: Die Rote Kapelle, Tour de Bal 2021–22, Hybride Geschichte(n) – Publishing Swiss Oral Dance History, and Zeitgenössische Choreograf*innen bei der Arbeit.
The “Rote Kapelle”, or Red Orchestra, was one of the most important resistance networks during the Third Reich. Bern-based choreographer and choreologist Karin Hermes develops a historical fiction in which she places Swiss dance heritage in the context of the Second World War. “Tour de Bal” is a homage to various dance forms linked to the phenomenon that is the ball: Dóra Kiss, who launched the “Cadanse” online metacatalogue of dance heritage in Switzerland in 2016, uses the sources it has assembled for a mediation project. The Swiss Archive of the Performing Arts (SAPA) is planning to develop a publication prototype for oral history based on the 2018 award-winning project “Tale(s) of Swiss Dance – Conversations with Ursula Pellaton”. The documentary film project initiated by Mona De Weerdt is devoted to key individuals in the current Swiss dance scene and their various choreographic methods and approaches.
