This year’s Swiss Grand Award for the Performing Arts / Hans Reinhart Ring goes to Martin Zimmermann, who has spent more than two decades creating a unique genre that expands the horizons of the performing arts.

Further Swiss Performing Arts Awards go to Nicole Seiler, the Ballet Junior de Genève, the urban dance festivals Groove’N’Move and Breakthrough, Mathieu Bertholet, Tanya Beyeler, fleischlin/meser, Joël Maillard, Antje Schupp and Manuel Stahlberger.

Awards go to Jasmin Morand’s dance production “LUMEN” and Alexander Giesche’s theatre production “Man in the Holocene” at the Schauspielhaus Zürich. The June Johnson Newcomer Prize is won by Mirjam Gurtner.

The Swiss Performing Arts Awards will be presented on 28 October at the new Théâtre du Jura in Delémont. The event will also be live-streamed on the websites schweizerkulturpreise.ch/remiseprixscene, arttv.ch and spectyou.com gestreamt.

The next entries for the June Johnson Newcomer Prize, Dance Production 2021 and Cultural Heritage – Performing Arts can be submitted between 5 October and 9 November 2021 via the FOC’s support platform.

The new hashtag for the Swiss Performing Arts Awards on Instagram and Facebook is @swissperformingartsawards. Coverage of the awards will continue until the partner events in spring 2022.

The first Swiss Performing Arts Awards presentation ceremony will take place on 28 October 2021 at the Théâtre du Jura in Delémont. The names of the winners will be announced on 2 September.

To replace the Swiss Theatre Awards presentation ceremony which had to be cancelled in 2020, the seven members of the Federal Theatre Jury recorded a video message for each of the winners. You can view them online.

The Swiss Theatre Yearbook MIMOS devoted to the winner of the Swiss Grand Award for Theatre / Hans Reinhart Ring 2020 will be published in May. The book launch will take place at 11 a.m. on 9 May in a virtual format as part of the Swiss Theatre Encounter. It will also see the official presentation of the Hans Reinhart Ring 2020 to Jossi Wieler, again in a virtual format.

Some of the winners of the Swiss Dance Awards 2019 and Swiss Theatre Awards 2020 will be present at the Tanzfest dance festival, the Swiss Theatre Encounter and the Artists’ Fair this spring. Information about the formats will be published on the events’ websites.

Support for Dance as Cultural Heritage projects has been extended to include projects linked to the performing arts in general. Following the competition held in autumn 2020, three projects were chosen: “The Dritter Frühling dance theatre performs Gilles Jobin’s ‘Moebius Strip’”; “Arte, cultura e società. Il Libro sulla MOPS_DanceSyndrome”; and “Contemporary dance in Ticino: Claudio Schott”.
