Swiss Music Prizes
The Swiss Music Prizes recognise outstanding achievements in Swiss music each year. They are awarded by the Federal Office of Culture in accordance with the relevant legislation and regulations.
The following prizes are awarded:
● the Swiss Grand Award for Music (CHF 100,000) for a lifetime achievement
● seven Swiss Music Prizes (CHF 40,000 each) for active musicians and collectives
● three Special Prizes for Music (CHF 25,000) for individuals or institutions that have made a significant contribution to the music scene
Selection process
Each year, the Federal Office of Culture appoints ten independent experts. These experts nominate up to 100 individuals, collectives or institutions from the Swiss music scene.
The seven-member Federal Music Jury then recommends the winners of the Swiss Grand Award for Music, the seven Swiss Music Prizes and the three Special Prizes for Music. The Federal Office of Culture ultimately awards the prizes on behalf of the Federal Department of Home Affairs.
All those involved come from different fields of expertise, musical genres, linguistic regions and genders. It is not possible to apply for the Swiss Music Prizes.
Award ceremony
The award ceremony takes place at a public event. The distinguished achievements gain national and international visibility.
Important
The Swiss Music Prizes are state awards. They do not constitute project funding. Project funding at federal level is the responsibility of Pro Helvetia.
