Born in Spain, La Ribot – as she calls herself professionally – has been living and working in Geneva since 2004. Her 2018 group piece “Happy Island”, produced in association with the inclusive company Dançando com a Differença from Madeira, Portugal, reveals a new facet of her wide-ranging artistic creativity. La Ribot appears on theatre stages but also performs in galleries, moving seamlessly between dance, performance, video works and the visual arts. In 2017, Berlin’s “Tanz im August” festival staged a retrospective of the Spanish-Swiss artist’s work. A further major retrospective will be on show this autumn at the Festival d’Automne in Paris, at which she will present her new work “Please Please Please” together with the French choreographer and dancer Mathilde Monnier on the stage of the Centre Pompidou.
The award carries prize money of CHF 40,000.
