Isabelle Chassot has been Director of the Federal Office of Culture since 1 November 2013.
After studying law at the University of Fribourg (bilingual degree), Isabelle Chassot obtained her licence to practice in 1992. Between 1992 and 1995 she worked as a lawyer in Fribourg. From 1995 she was a research assistant and, from 1997, a personal assistant to Federal Councillors Arnold Koller and Ruth Metzler. During that period she was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Fribourg and was involved in various commissions, associations and foundations. In 2001 Isabelle Chassot was elected to the Cantonal Council of Fribourg, and headed the Education, Culture and Sports Department from 2002 to the end of October 2013. She was re-elected in 2006 and 2011 and was head of the government of Fribourg in 2007. From 2006 to the end of October 2013 she also chaired the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education.
Isabelle Chassot was appointed Director of the Federal Office of Culture by the Federal Council in May 2013.
