Dance as Cultural Heritage – projects selected for 2016

Out of seven projects submitted last autumn for Dance as Cultural Heritage 2016, the Federal Dance Jury has selected three: a historical recreation of the works of Sigurd Leeder, a meta-catalogue on dance in Switzerland, and a publication on the three MonteDADA symposia.

Sigurd Leeder (1902-1981) taught in Herisau from 1964 to 1981 and was a key actor and educator in the field of expressive dance. Today, his estate is held by the Swiss Dance Collection. Project head Karin Hermes is working with institutions in Germany and France on a recreation of Leeder's works and accompanying programmes based on dance scores. Dora Kiss is developing a dance meta-catalogue to complement library catalogues and provide access to texts linked to dance. Finally, Mona de Weerdt and Andreas Schwabe receive a contribution towards the cost of a publication on dance and Dada to follow three symposia in Ascona, Cologne and Zurich. The total prize money awarded is CHF 150,000. For further information on the cultural heritage projects, see:
