Choreographer Cindy Van Acker from Geneva has won the Swiss Grand Prix for Performing Arts/Hans-Reinhart-Ring 2023. Van Acker is an international success on the established theatre scene and on the independent dance scene with her company Cie Greffe.

Cindy Van Acker, born in Belgium in 1971, has been one of Switzerland’s outstanding choreographers for many years. She joined the Grand Théâtre de Genève in 1991 as a ballet dancer. At the invitation of Romeo Castellucci, she presented her solo “Corps 00:00” at the Venice Biennale in 2005. That performance paved the way for her international success and her association with Castellucci that endures to this day, especially for opera productions, such as “Don Giovanni” at the Salzburg Festival in 2021. Her latest cooperative venture - “Das Rheingold” by Richard Wagner - premiered at La Monnaie/De Munt opera house in Brussels at the end of October. The hallmark of the subtle and resistant choreographer lies in the meticulous, almost scientific thoroughness of her creations, where bodies, music and space interact.
