Choreographer Cindy Van Acker from Geneva has won the Swiss Grand Prix for Performing Arts/Hans-Reinhart-Ring 2023. Van Acker is an international success on the established theatre scene and on the independent dance scene with her company Cie Greffe.
The other Swiss performing arts awards for 2023 go to Rébecca Balestra, Bruno Cathomas, Ntando Cele, Tiziana Conte, Barbara Giongo and Nataly Sugnaux Hernandez, Sandro Lunin, Circus Monti, Jeremy Nedd and theatre group Tellspiele Altdorf.
Dance production “Blast!” by Ruth Childs and theatre production “EWS – Der einzige Politthriller der Schweiz” by Theater Neumarkt won the dance production and theatre production awards, respectively. Marc Oosterhoff/Cie Moost won the June Johnson Newcomer Prize.
The Swiss Performing Arts Awards Ceremony will be held on 6 October 2023 as part of the FIT –International Festival of Theatre, with Alain Berset, President of the Swiss Confederation in attendance, at LAC cultural centre, Lugano. The event will be streamed live on the Swiss Culture Awards website.
The next round of entries for the “June Johnson Newcomer Prize 2024”, for dance production 2023 and for performing arts heritage 2024 can be still submitted to the platform for supporting subsidies (FPF) of the FOC until 24 October 2023.
The Federal Office of Culture works closely with the following partners to promote the prizes: the Swiss Association for Theatre Studies, the Swiss Artists’ Fair, Tanzfest and the Swiss Theatre Days.
Mike Müller will open the Swiss Artists' Fair on 19 April with his inheritance comedy “Erbsache". Frida León Beraud will also be presenting her work in Thun. Both received a Swiss Performing Arts Award last autumn.
Winners in the dance category of the Swiss Performing Arts Awards will be showing their work all over Switzerland at Tanzfest. Dance on tour will feature Marco Berrettini, Yasmine Hugonnet, Susanne Schneider / BewegGrund, Paola Gianoli and Nicole Seiler, who won an award in 2021.
The 10th edition of the Swiss Theatre Encounter will feature Barbara Frey, winner of the Swiss Grand Award for the Performing Arts / Hans Reinhart Ring 2022, along with Maya Bösch, Ticino is Burning, Mathieu Bertholet and Daniel Hellmann.
The MIMOS yearbook on the winner of the Swiss Grand Award for the Performing Arts / Hans Reinhart Ring 2022, Barbara Frey, is being published to coincide with the 10th edition of the Theatre Encounter.
The next Swiss Performing Arts Awards will be presented on 6 October 2023 at the LAC as part of the FIT Festival Internazionale del Teatro in Lugano. The winners will be announced by the Federal Office of Culture on 31 August.
From 15 entries submitted in the autumn of 2022, five projects have been selected to receive support: “Premiers théâtres suisses”, “Les souffleurs de temps”, Oskar Eberle (1902-56), “Choreographers at Work!” and the festival “cultural heritage, dance!”.
The next entries for the June Johnson Newcomer Prize, Dance Production 2023 and Performing Arts Heritage can be submitted between 26 September and 24 October 2023 via the FOC’s support platform.
