Film funding is a federal competence in Switzerland. This principle is laid down in the Federal Constitution, Art. 71.
The structure of federal film funding is primarily defined by the following legal bases:
- Federal Film Act of 14 December 2001 (FiG) and Film Ordinance (FiV) of 3 July 2002
- Ordinance of the Federal Department of Home Affairs (FDHA) on film funding (FiFV) of 21 April 2016, which also contains the film funding strategy 2016-2020 in the annex.
- Ordinance of the FDHA on the Promotion of the International Presence of Swiss Cinema and MEDIA compensatory measures (“IPFiV”) of 21 April 2016.
