UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in Switzerland

Several Swiss traditions are featured on UNESCO’s Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage, with additional candidates in the pipeline.

The Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity includes forms of expression that demonstrate the diversity of intangible cultural heritage and raise awareness of its importance.

The Register of Good Safeguarding Practices contains programmes, projects and activities that reflect the principles and goals of the Convention.

Several Swiss traditions have been added to UNESCO’s Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage, with additional candidates currently under consideration. Both the nominated and listed traditions should raise Switzerland’s awareness regarding the importance of living cultural heritage, demonstrate its commitment to safeguarding this heritage and strengthen cultural communication activities.
