The Film Act (FiA) and the Ordinance on the quota for European films and investments in Swiss film production (FQIO) provide that payments by companies subject to the investment obligation made to recognised film funding institutions may be counted as eligible expenses if they are used in their entirety by the institutions to fund screenplays by Swiss authors or the development and production of independent film projects by Swiss directors (art. 16 FQIO).
Film funding institutions are recognised by the FOC on request. The recognition criteria include quality criteria, independence, fairness and transparency in the selection of the films eligible for funding, as well as the grounds for and the review of decisions (art. 17 FQIO).
